Work, lately #00
Day-in-the-life notes from my work in book publishing.

A weekly newsletter by a publishing professional with a decade of experience. This is for writers seeking publishing tools, readers looking for great recs, and humans who love to journal, observe, and reflect.
To me, there are many joys to working with books.
It is such a slow-moving hobby, it gently forges one into a union with themselves. It encourages such deep reflection and understanding.
When I was on the fence about what I wanted to do with my life, my spirit searched for long-term consistency. Authors (people who start and finish a book), know a thing or two about consistency.
Even long after they pass, they are still working. Look to James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler, bell hooks. The list can go on and on.
I have always felt like being a part of bringing a book into the world, assisting in the manifestation of an idea made tangible, is being a part of shaping human history. In 100, 200 years, it is what we are publishing now that will be studied. It is what we are publishing now that will inform future Earth 3 what we did right and wrong. It is what we are publishing now that will preserve language and what is left of it, for some cultures.
It feels like important work; not literally saving lives like a surgeon might, but still providing something so useful to the human that it just might save a life. I know Becoming Supernatural by Dr. Joseph Dispenza saved me, among other books.
Think back to how you had a question once. That question led you to finding a book that may or may not answer your question. Not only did the book answer the question, but it helped to generate more.
Think back to when you really needed to know how to take care of this new health issue. You had a lot of questions so you found a book that may or may not answer your questions. Not only did the book answer the questions, but it taught you how to stabilize your condition, to keep it from getting worse.
To further honor my joy and love for books, I have joined the Team PRH Ambassador Program at work for this year (!). This means that I plan to share with you the books we are talking about in the building, the books I am working on day-to-day, a day in the life of. We are the best in the business, ya’ll, so you’re welcome!
